15 Real Tips for Leading a Healthier Lifestyle

15 Real Tips for Leading a Healthier Lifestyle - Fit-Squirrel

We've put together some quick tips that you can put into practise today to start living a healthier lifestyle.

1. Meal Prep

Organising your meals before hand will not only save time and money, but it'll also make sure that you're making healthier food choices and not reaching for processed foods out of hunger.

2. Get enough sleep

Experts recommend getting 8 hours of Zzzz in per night, but the perfect amount is whatever works for you. If you feel rested and refreshed after 6 hours, then that's the magic number for you.

3. Wake up at the same time every morning

This will reinforce your circadian rhythm and you'll be prompted to go to sleep at the same time every night. Doing this will ensure that our bodily functions and cycles will be operating efficiently and effectively.

4. Drink water first thing in the morning

You've been asleep for hours throughout the night, and that means you haven't been drinking water. Dehydration is strongly linked to decreased mental performance, such as completing tasks or memorizing new things. Starting your day with a glass of water can help you to feel refreshed and more alert.

5. Move your body every day

Daily movement is one of the best things you can do to support your overall mental and physical wellbeing. Improved mood, weight management, better sleep, better memory and strong heart and lungs.

6. Schedule your workouts

Planning your workouts will make it easier to stick to your routine and ensure that you stay motivated. You'll also find it easier to find a balance between flexibility, strength and endurance training throughout the week.

7. Set goals (short term + long term)

Setting goals will give you long-term vision as well as short-term motivation. If you've set clear and defined goals for yourself, in regards to your fitness or your life, it will help you organize your time and resources and use them effectively.

8. Surround yourself with good people

We've all heard the Jim Rohn  saying, "You're the sum of the 5 people you spend the most time with." We need people in our lives who are trusted friends, family, mentors and teachers who challenge us, influence us and push us to be our best selves.

9. Lay out your workout gear the night before

There's nothing like a fresh set of activewear to motivate you for a great workout. Setting it out the night before will help to set your intentions and save you time in the morning.

10. Do 1 thing per day that makes you happy

We spend so much time doing the things that "have" to be done, but what about the things that we want to do? Scheduling in time for ourselves, not matter how small, to do something we love to do can go a long way in our overall happiness.

11. Meditate

Decreases anxiety, boosts productivity, improves social wellbeing, boosts emotional intelligence, boosts creativity, lowers blood pressure... need we say more?

12. Listen to your body

By listening and responding to your body's messages, you'll enjoy the benefits of feeling more energized, empowered, stronger, healthier and happier.

13. Take rest days

Rest, recharge and refuel to come back better than ever.

14. Maintain a positive mindset

Dealing with life's obstacles will be a lot easier with a positive mindset. Focus on what you get to do instead of what you have to do, practise dealing with rejection and surround yourself with other like minded people to really see a difference in your personal and professional life.

15. Reduce your screen time

Finally, reducing your screen time is the quickest way to start feeling happier and healthier. Make meal times family time, start reading physical books, stay active and get outside. You'll find that the benefits of spending more time with loved ones, appreciating a good book and moving your body outdoors far outweigh the "happiness" you find scrolling through TikTok.
